Curriculum

These two half-day CPD sessions have been designed in collaboration with Tykes Teaching Alliance in Barnsley for teachers, leaders and SENDCos with responsibility for targeted interventions and the deployment of teaching assistants.

Participants will be supported to:

  • Explore a range of evidence-informed approaches to ensure the effective deployment of teaching assistants in everyday classrooms, as well as in delivering targeted interventions, ensuring that there are explicit connections made between both.
  • Understand the importance of diagnostic assessment in ensuring that the right pupils benefit from the right interventions.
  • Understand the features of effective interventions using the TARGET model.
  • Explore the evidence about the impact of 1:1 and small group interventions.
  • Ensure explicit connections are made between learning from everyday classroom teaching and structured interventions.

These sessions are underpinned by recommendations in the EEF Making Best Use of Teaching Assistants Guidance Report and other evidence sources. A range of practical tools and resources, including those designed by schools, will be shared.
