We are delighted to formally introduce our newly accredited provider of school-led Initial Teacher Training (ITT), Exchange Teacher Training.

Exchange Teacher Training unites three SCITTs, eleven multi-academy trusts and several School Direct Lead Schools, all driven by a shared moral purpose of improving the quality of education through great teaching. Our partnership, encompassing over 230 strong placement schools, is named as such because we understand the power of knowledge exchange and sharing the best of what we all do. We will deliver high-quality initial teacher training across Yorkshire and the Humber, the Northeast and down to Lincolnshire. Working together we have created a compelling vision for teacher training.

Exchange Teacher Training offers an ambitious, evidence informed programme to develop lifelong, reflective practitioners. Our teachers will inspire the next generation and improve the life chances of all learners.

Our curriculum has been developed by outstanding serving school leaders in partnership with Evidence Based Education, utilising the Great Teaching Toolkit and Model for Great Teaching. Trainees will be inspired by a rich, fresh approach, rooted in the best available evidence and delivered by national and regional experts. Trainees will be equipped with the skills they will need to succeed in tomorrow’s classrooms and our changing world.

Our programme is academically rigorous, resulting in qualified teacher status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with Master’s-level credits. Sheffield Hallam University, selected by our partnership, will deliver, and award the PGCE – a highly credible provider and a national centre of education, recognised for their excellence and innovation in teaching and learning.

Sessions will be delivered using a blended approach with a combination of face-to-face, online, synchronous and asynchronous sessions. Trainees will enjoy day conferences at the state-of-the-art campus facility, The Education Exchange, situated in the heart of the region in West Yorkshire, with excellent road links to the A1, M1 and M62 and in walking distance to Knottingley train station.

Trainees will have access to additional resources at Sheffield Hallam University, including their libraries, learning resources and collaborative learning spaces. They will also benefit from wraparound support including Hallam Help, the ability to complete the Mental Health First Aid certificate and bespoke, personalised support from their Lead Delivery Partner (LDP).

Our Partnership

Lead Delivery Partners have been established retaining local expertise, relationships and capacity within credible schools and trusts with experience in ITT. Whilst coordinating our placement opportunities, our LDPs will undertake key aspects of work in recruitment and marketing.

Our Lead Delivery Partners are:

  • South Yorkshire – led by Exceed Learning Partnership and The Rose Learning Trust (based in Doncaster), and Tykes Teaching Alliance/HCAT (based in Barnsley).
  • West Yorkshire – led by The Rodillian Multi-Academy Trust and Castleford Academy Trust.
  • North East – led by Northern Education Trust (NET).
  • Lincolnshire, Northeast Lincolnshire and North Lincolnshire – led by Harbour Learning Trust.

We embark upon exciting times and our recruitment window will launch in October 2023 for programmes commencing in September 2024.
