Teaching offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people. A great education builds confidence, opens doors and strengthens communities.
At Exchange Teaching Hub, we play a key role in the delivery of Initial Teacher Training (ITT) by supporting potential applicants and signposting a range of training opportunities across Barnsley, Doncaster, Selby and Wakefield.

Teacher Training Routes Available
There are several ways to become a teacher, depending on your background and learning preferences:
- University-Led (PGCE)
- Study at a university and complete school placements as part of a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), which may also include QTS.
- School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT)
- Train directly in a school setting while working towards QTS, often with the option of gaining a PGCE.
- Undergraduate Degrees with QTS
- For those starting their journey at university, some teaching degrees include QTS as part of the programme.
- Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship
- Train on the job while earning a salary and gaining QTS, with off-the-job training included.
Choosing the Right Route
To decide which training route is right for you, consider:
- Your previous education and experience
- Whether you prefer a salaried or fee-paying route
- Your preferred learning style (school-based or university-led)
